From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spotters view of a Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340. The picture was taken from a public field at the end of Myrtle Avenue, a popular area for photographers near the south east corner of London (Heathrow) Airport (England).

The field is an excellent spot for aircraft photography if runway 27L is in use. Runways 27L (southern runway) or 27R (northern runway) are used when the wind is from the west or south west. With this wind direction, the aircraft land across the city of London and fly over Hatton Cross underground station.

During the daytime, an aircraft lands at Heathrow every 2 - 3 minutes. The majority of these are British Airways flights.

Photographed by Adrian Pingstone in 2003.
