Educational Resources

World Orphan Week can be educational as well as fun. It is a great opportunity for pupils to learn more about the world around them, and the issues facing the children they support through taking part in World Orphan Week.

One way to do this is to take this opportunity to sponsor one of our children’s Villages abroad, which will give pupils a real connection with children elsewhere in the world, making ‘Global Citizenship’ a reality in the classroom. It gives you a good foundation to learn about the country where you are sponsoring in terms of geography (your pupils will be interested to learn about the environment where their SOS friends live), maths (an opportunity to teach about the economy of the country), music (songs from all over the world can be found on the internet) and English (practice writing letters to the children you support). You can learn more about sponsoring with SOS Children here.

Lesson Plans

We will shortly have available a number of lesson plans on issues concerning children across the world. Topics will include for example child soldiers, child labour and HIV/AIDS. Please keep checking this page, as we will keep adding lesson plans as soon as they are ready.
