Two British motorcyclists riding their way across Eurasia for the benefit of SOS Children had to be rescued after being trapped by heavy snow in Turkey. Chris Colling with Children

Rory Elliot and Chris Colling were nearing the final stages of their cross-Eurasian adventure, ‘Run from the Sun’ when their bikes became trapped in a blizzard near the South Eastern town of Yuksekova, near the Iranian and Iraqi border. Turkish authorities rescued the pair and took them to the local hospital. The Turkish Consulate today confirmed that they had now left hospital and were continuing with their journey.

Rory, from Durham, and Chris, from Leeds, set off from Beijing in August and have so far travelled through 9 countries, visiting a number of SOS Children’s Villages en-route, including the village in Lahore, Pakistan.

The adventurers are raising funds for SOS Children’s annual World Orphan Week campaign (which takes place during the first week in October), to provide orphaned and abandoned children with a new family home and hope for the future. A Yamaha motorbike, donated by Karrimor, is also up for grabs. To stand a chance of winning and to support SOS Children, simply text ‘KARRIMOR‘ to 60999.
