Prince Charles and SOS Children

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting from 23 - 25 November in Kampala was an opportunity for SOS Children Uganda to demonstrate their work.

SOS Children Uganda participated in the recently concluded Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Kampala. Apart from having a stand manned by SOS Uganda board members at the associated Business Forum, SOS Children participated through the voices of the children in the following way: one youth attended the pre-CHOGM Children's Conference supported by World Vision: here the children came up with a memorandum which was printed and distributed to delegates. Two youth participated in the pre-CHOGM Youth Forum two day workshop, while five more took part in the opening and closing ceremonies of the forum. Three STAFF attended four workshops in the People's Forum and one youth exhibited and sold her art work at the Youth Forum.

Finally, to crown it all, the SOS children performed several times at the people's space where SOS art work was displayed and documentaries shown about SOS Children Uganda. One performance took place in front of Prince Charles, marking the climax of the activities.

Benefits of attending the event included an increased awareness of the work of SOS Children, exposure of the children to an international forum, and an improved relationship with national and international bodies.

Relevant Countries: Uganda.
