Football frenzy stroms forward for SOS Children “6 villages for 2006” campaign.
At the end of March Celtic Football Club held a fundraising dinner as part of their support for “6 Villages for 2006”. To date they have raised £25,000 for the new SOS Children’s Village in Rustenburg, South Africa.
By April the campaign was in full swing. Over 650 children from schools up and down the country took part in a world record attempt organised by The FA and England fans official fan club. A record was set on 26 April when 459 children successfully ball juggled for 10 seconds and set a new Keepy Uppy world record. Schools across England, from Doncaster to Eastleigh and Solihull to Wincanton, took part. Many thanks to all the children and everyone involved. Congratulations on the world record and for raising vital funds!
In May, British schools supported our Keepy Uppy Challenge for a week of football activities and the winners will receive a signed England shirt! Winners will be announced in the next edition of SOS Children’s World.
Classic Response update
Our second concert at the Royal Albert Hall attracted thousands of people and performers included Aled Jones, the Opera Babed and G4. Nokwanda Dlamini (Nocky), and SOS student from Swaziland who is studying in the UK, enthralled the audience, despite being incredibly nervous, about her life and living in an SOS family. Many of the performers and members of the audience were incredibly moved.

Volunteer Regional Co-ordinators
After the first successful training weekend in March, Volunteer Regional Co-ordinators (VRCs) across the country are talking to their local schools, companies and communities about SOS Children. Invitation to a Ball
Kathy Darley, one of our new VRCs, is arranging a ball at Leeds United Football Club on 2nd September 2006. You can be part of this glittering evening, hosted by ex-England rugby player Mick Morgan, which will be supported by the Leeds United football team and their management.

Recent fundraising events
Stephen Armstrong celebrated his 58th birthday in May by climbing 58 of the peaks in the Lake District. He raised an incredible £3,000 for an educational project in Costa Rica.

Running for change
Supporters across the UK braved the weather in London on 26 April 2006 to raise funds for a number of SOS projects. Kelly Edwards, Lynne Barnes, Vanessa Crookes, Chris Atwell and Stuart Ward all ran the London Marathon for SOS and collectively raised over £6,000. At the end of April one of the new Volunteer Regional Co-ordinators, Lindy Gray, completed the Leeds Half Marathon in the top3%.
Rory Penn, Nick Gray and Will Burr, employees of the Grosvenor Group, raised £77,743.20 for the SOS Nursery School in Blantyre, Malawi by competing in the Marathons des Sables, a gruelling series of six marathons in six days.

30 runners took part in the London 10km Run for SOS on 2 of July, including a team from SOS. Thank you for runners, supporters and sponsors!

BUPA Great North Run
