SMS stumps up for SOS Children!

SMS, a Slough based voluntary fundraising group, recently organised a charity cricket match at Salt Hill Park in support of SOS Children.
SMS (Sunday Morning Soccer) is the brainchild of local pharmacist Bobby Mehta and, since its creation in 2001, has raised money for numerous local and national charities. The organisation is comprised of almost twenty local, like-minded individuals who have a passion for sport and are focused on doing all they can to help those in most need.
The cricket match which took place in beautiful sunny conditions in June 2008 raised a brilliant £1,350 in sponsorship for SOS Children's Village Jammu in India which was built in 2001. It has twelve family houses and runs a school for around a thousand children.
Presenting the cheque to SOS Children Trustee David Stranack, SMS Trustee, Bobby Mehta explained, "SMS and all its hard working members are committed to making a difference, we all enjoy organising and participating in what are essentially fun and social events but we've always felt that whilst we have fun we can also use these events to help those people who are most vulnerable and are most needy".
India is the largest single country of SOS Children's worldwide operations with more than thirty villages including several for Tibetan refugees. Most of the funds for SOS Children's work in India is raised locally from local donors and businesses with some additional help from sponsored events like this.
