Sponsor a child for Christmas

Christmas time celebrations for children

Across the world children celebrate Christmas in a number of ways: the thrill of opening Christmas gifts and presents and spending the day with their family and with loved ones. It is also a time of year when we think of those less fortunate than ourselves, who have lost friends or family or are struggling to celebrate at all. Of course, sometimes thinking about those less fortunate turns into doing something for them and that is part of the spirit of SOS Children. All around the world there are excited SOS children who can have a proper Christmas with people they love around them thanks to your help.

And there's nothing more magical than seeing a child's face on this special day. All the excitement of the build up to Christmas - decorating the Christmas tree and the house; preparing the traditional food special in their country and doing things according to the custom of the country. This makes it an exciting time for all.

The festive season and Christmas holidays are a time for SOS families to have parties, enjoy the school break and spend time with family. Christmas presents are placed under the Christmas tree or hidden for the children to find - gifts could be anything from balls, clothes, sweets, crayons or more.

All families from different religious backgrounds take part in the celebrations - even if only one family is Christian and the rest are Muslim or Hindu, for example - all SOS mothers and children will join in with the Christmas festivities. You can read more about how SOS children worldwide now enjoy Christmas celebrations in Bangladesh, Bolivia, Russia and Sierra Leone.

Christmas gift for charity

If you are still wondering what to give for Christmas and you need a gift which really captures the spirit of Christmas why not sponsor a child as a Christmans present?? We can set a child sponsorship for a friend, family or colleague for a Christmas present or another special occasion, it can all be set up on our website. Please explain in the special 'instructions' box on the secure child sponsorship form what you would like us to do.

We do ask though if at all possible for you to complete an application by 8 December so we can send the sponsorship packs to you to give as a gift on Christmas Day. We then mail subsequent updates and information on to the person receiving the gift. After 8 December you may only have a letter for the lucky recipient "a child has been sponsored for you and details will be sent very soon". It's still a personal gift and the details of their sponsored child would be sent early in the New Year.

Thank you and we wish you a happy festive season.
