13-year-old Touria, a star athlete from the SOS Children’s Village in Imzouren, Morocco, was successfully chosen to be a ‘Press Pack Reporter’ for CBBC during the Olympic Games. Touria got the chance to represent Morocco and follow their progress during the Games.

In an interview with CBBC, here’s what she said:

Favourite sport: Track and Basketball

Are you excited about the Beijing Olympics? Are you going to be watching? What events are you most interested in?

Yes, I’m very interested in the Olympic Games and in all sports, even those I don’t play. But I’m most interested in the running events and basketball. I’m going to watch the Beijing Olympics on television.

What is the atmosphere like in your country? Are people excited about the Olympics?

I’m not really sure about what’s going on in the entire country, but here in the SOS Children’s Village in Imzouren where I live, most of the children are very excited about these games. We especially like the events in which someone from Morocco participates.

Prediction for possible medals/achievements by their team - who are the big stars? who should we watch out for?

I really hope to see a Moroccan on the podium with a medal. It is very important to me that the Moroccan team participates in the Olympic Games and has a good performance in this international competition so that the Moroccan flag will fly high and the Moroccan team will be considered one of the best in the world. Our most well-known athletes are Hicham El Geurrouj, Nawal Al Moutawakkil, Hasna Ben Hassi, Salah Hissou, Nezha Bedouan and Brahim Boutaib. I think Hasna Ben Hassi has a good chance of winning a medal at this year’s Olympics.
