SOS Emergency relief centres supporting children in Bolivia

The signing of an inter-agency agreement, the delivery of equipment and the opening of the first childcare centre in Chequetije were formalized this Friday March 7 in Trinidad. Both centres will provide services in nutrition, education, health and protection to 240 boys and girls for three months.

SOS Children conducted the official opening of an emergency childcare centre in Chequetije, Beni, and delivered the necessary equipment so that the second centre is installed next March 10th. Government authorities, representatives of SOS Children and the public, in general, were present at this event which will provide, initially, comprehensive care and protection to 120 children in Chequetije, and another 120 in the Plaza de la Tradición, the following week.

The deputy director of SOS Children Bolivia, Enrique Aguirre; the director of the Department of Management of Social Services (Sedeges) in Beni, Janeth Aponte; the director of the Children and Adolescents' Care Programme (PAN), Virna Gutierrez, and the director of the Emergency Operations Centre (COE), Carlos Delín signed the so called agreement that establishes the operation of two emergency childcare centres in Chequetije and Plaza de la Tradición.

The community thanked SOS Children and appreciated the opening of the childcare centres, highlighting their continued presence and immediate response in emergency situations; such as when the Organisation launched the SOS Emergency Programmes last year in the same sector. Also, residents of the communities located in the areas 1º de Mayo, 27 de Mayo and Pantanal told representatives of SOS Children that they would be interested in similar centres being opened in the areas where they live.

Framed within the mission and vision of SOS Children, the implementation of the emergency programmes is based on the continued presence of SOS Children in the affected areas and also in their interaction with the community itself in order to make it co-responsible for the care, protection and safety of the boys and girls of the affected families.

The outcomes of the implementation of both centres will be assessed by specialised "SOS professionals" in the attention and care of children, with the support of the community leaders and directors of other "SOS programs" currently operating in neighbouring regions.
